Greetings from beautiful, but a bit breezy and rainy, Luberon region and Menerbes France.
Tour guide Cindy has kept us busy with short day trips throughout the Luberon area. Let’s recap what we saw. Again, everything is close by and every place has a castle, fortress, or chateau. Amazingly beautiful place.
Roman bridge in Vaison-la-Romaine.
Built in 100 AD by the Romans, this bridge with very little structural change is still in daily use by autos and trucks 🤔
This marble plaque is in remembrance of the men who died in WW1. Every town remembers the young men who sacrificed their lives for France. 🙏🏻City entrance. Look, cobblestones. 😜Chateau Vaison La Romaine. The forts in this area are called chateaus.
Vaison-la-Romaine clock tower.
Ok, let’s move down the road a few miles to Lacoste.City entrance, look more cobblestones! 😜Chateau LacosteView from the top of Lacoste. The Luberon is so beautiful.Side note, this is a Borie. They are stone huts you see throughout the Luberon and were built and used by sheepherders and farmers as temporary shelters.Saturday market in Apt. It’s January and the markets still go on every Saturday!Ok, next day on to St. Saturnin Les Apt.Let’s climb the hill to the beautiful chateau overlooking the village and valley. Fantastic, more cobblestones!Built around 1000 AD, the chateau is in disrepair, but the views are spectacular!😎Imagine this Chateau over 1000 years ago as the center of village life. The chateau’s church has been maintained and is still used for special occasions.🙏🏻Breathtaking views!View from the top. Note the reservoir built in the 1800’s for the valleys water supply.Staggeringly beautiful. One last stop, Joucas. We ate our picnic lunch in the fields just outside of Joucas👍Ok, don’t want you to think all we do is tour, we did somehow find time to refill our wine bottle. Don’t know how it was empty so fast? And of course, our daily bakery adventure/exploration.And I know you wanted to see the latest picture of Teddy, who’s trying to crawl !
Au revoir for now. Five more days in the Luberon with a trip to Aix-en-Provence. 👍
Beautiful pics and breathtaking views!
Teddy is growing!
